GreenFeed - Sustainable Feeding of Greenland Sled Dogs

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The overall aim of the GreenFeed project is to develop sustainable and culturally aligned feeding solutions that promote the health and welfare of Greenland sled dogs. The project addresses the complex challenges posed by climate change, shifts in the availability of feed resources and increasing economic pressures affecting both the dogs and their owners.
In close collaboration with local sled dog owners and feed producers, the project aims to:
- Map current feeding practices among sled dog owners in Greenland.
- Assess the availability, seasonal variation, nutritional composition, and potential content of environmental contaminants in local feed sources in Greenland.
- Investigate opportunities to incorporate alternative or new local ingredients into sled dog diets.
- Increase knowledge of the metabolism and specific nutritional requirements of Greenlandic sled dogs.
- Develop evidence-based feeding solutions and recommendations that support animal welfare, environmental sustainability and Greenlandic cultural traditions.
